Earwig Assessment at Ickburgh SEND School

Earwig was recommended to us during a Challenge Partners Review. The software is ideal for capturing the progress of our sensory learners (pre-formal curriculum) and early skills learners (semi-formal curriculum). We also use it to capture the progress made by our active learners (formal curriculum) in their personal development.

At first we used Earwig for evidence and recording our pupils’ learning journeys. We are now exploring its other functions, and have started to baseline, assess and track our pupils’ progress using the software. As our confidence and competencies grow we plan to use Earwig to report to parents.

Parents and carers have responded positively when we have shared their child’s Earwig timelines. Earwig has helped teachers and LSAs to manage their workload effectively. The Senior Leadership Team have seen the benefits Earwig offers in terms of organising evidence and managing data. Health professionals have also started to record using Earwig allowing more opportunities for collaboration and ‘joining up’.

The most impressive feature of Earwig is its flexibility. With the help and support of the Earwig team we have created and adapted our own assessment frameworks with relative ease. Earwig has had a very positive impact at our school and the phrase that commonly comes to mind is ‘one-stop shop’.
